Singapore's Primary 1 (P1) registration is a five-phase process that places your child in a government or government-aided primary school for the following January. The phases run between late June and late August each year, with strict eligibility and priority rules at each stage. Getting a place at your preferred school requires understanding both the rules and the local school capacity data.
Phase 1 is for children with a sibling already in the school — guaranteed placement. Phase 2A covers alumni children, staff, and church or clan association members. Phase 2B is for parent volunteers who served at the school. Phase 2C is open to all Singapore citizens and PRs within 1 km of the school (or 1-2 km with lower priority). Phase 2C Supplementary (2CS) opens after 2C for any school that still has unfilled places. Phase 3 is the final stage for international students without a confirmed place.
The most contested rule in P1 registration is the 1 km priority radius for Phase 2C. Children living within 1 km of the school (measured by MOE's internal building-outline distance, not straight-line) get priority over applicants from further away. In practice, this means your home address is the single biggest determinant of which school your child will likely attend. If you live within 1 km of an oversubscribed school, your chances are good. If you live 1.5 km away, your chances drop sharply.

Across all five phases of 2026 P1 registration, Singapore offered roughly 38,688 primary one places at 182 schools. Of these, ~9,000 went to Phase 2C (general public), and another 6,927 supplementary seats opened in Phase 2CS. The most oversubscribed school at Phase 2C was Cedar Primary (1.4x applicants per seat). The most undersubscribed were newer estates in Punggol and Sengkang, where MOE built schools ahead of BTO completions.

PrimarySch.com is an independent data project by Singapore-based parents. We went through P1 registration ourselves, and we built this site because the official sources don't let you compare schools side-by-side or see 4-year vacancy trends.
